An Open Letter to my Community // Mindfully Intuitive Nutrition

I have been privileged with so many blessings in my life – I am able to work, I have a home, I get to eat food whenever I want it, I have health, I’m a mom, and I get to do life with my best friend. However, being ‘thin’ is not a privilege that I have because I simply cannot agree that it is a privilege. ⠀ ⠀ At my thinnest body, I was broken. At my thinnest body, I suffered day in and day out. At my thinnest body, I hit rock bottom. If someone would have told me back then that I had ‘thin’ privilege, it would have beat me to the ground. ⠀ ⠀ When someone tells me now (like someone recently did on a post of mine) that I have ‘thin’ privilege, I can’t help but wonder why I am being labeled. When I’ve been at my heaviest I was labeled as ‘curvy,’ ‘larger,’ or ‘thicker’ and at my largest, I was still suffering from other things in my life. Do you know why? Because our body size has nothing to do with the traumas we face or we’ve dealt with. In someone’s eyes I may be ‘thin,’ but it has nothing to do with who I am. ⠀ ⠀ The way I focus on creating change is by always approaching life with kindness and positivity – not to mention that I simply do not label or will not talk about the body sizes of others. ⠀ ⠀ Health, no matter what body size, starts by focusing on what you can do now that promotes kindness within you.
